WTF Was I Thinking Video: Dr. Suess

This week, I'm going to go a little more recent. This was an episode of CRAP TV we did in February 2007, if I recall. It started as I read the featured book to Jeff's son, Anthony, and he loved it. For some reason, we thought this would be a good idea.

• Jeff said he was going to show up all gangster, if I'm correct, and showed up with that clown suit and boxing gloves.
  
• Notice the black eye and heart on his face. I think this was a precursor to "Dicktoad Sweetass"
• It was filmed in Melissa's apartment in Springdale.
• We were definitly PBS inspired for this one.
  
• I am pulling for Jeff to perform a CRAP show in that damn outfit.
• This video is featured on CRAP TV Volume 2 (Going to have it online for sale soon)
  
• What this has to do with our music that it's meant to promote, I have no idea...

This afternoon, I decided to explore the Tick live action series on my lunch break (as the whole series/season is on netflix). I have to say. This got canceled?.

Of course I've been a late comer to the whole Tick thing. I've watched the series here and there. Not nearly to the dedication for some of my friends. But I'm about two episodes in and love it. The guy that does Brock Sampson from Venture Brothers spouting off quotable lines for twenty minutes. I can't believe they pulled off that big blue outfit and the antennae animations are hilarious.

Pittsburgh Underground Show at The School

Last night was our first show in a good while IN Pittsburgh (even though last week's was just outside town in Glassport). The School on the North Side was our venue of choice this time around. It was much larger than last week's venue. Nice size stage, kicking PA (Skyline supplied their own last week). I think I fell in love with this new place.

The show was being put together by Paul Hammond, who I was hooked up with by my CRAP partner, and had interviewed a few months back under his previous name, J.East. This was his brainstorm from the get go, and I know he put a lot of hard work on this show to make it happen.

First up was Shaky Shake, who was seconded by JP Smiley. I was looking forward to this guy for a while, and was happy to see his name on the bill. Smiley was a pleasant surprise. I thought I didn't "look like a rapper". This dude had chains on. I loved it! It was a very cool dynamic.

Next up was Most and Roo of Real Life Entertainment. Not my style, but it was great to add to the night's variety.

The show's organizer, Paul Hammond was up next with his solo set. He dropped ten minutes and debuted a lot of new material. You can check out Boom and Chosen1 online from him.

The Deadbeats hit the stage, and are Paul's boys. I was amazed to find out this was their first show. I have to believe it's "as a group" because these guys came hard and knew what they were doing up there. With any luck, we might be seeing them up at Sorgstock this year.

Next up was a last minute adition of our boy Justin, a friend's cousin that wanted to get a chance to shine on stage. This kid is in his teens, and needs to get his comfort up, but he delivered his song pretty well for a first time. Welcome to the onstage addiction, friend!

Finally, after a quick 5 minute break, CRAP finally got on stage. Everyone was up front ready to witness, and I'm sure they were mostly new to what we were about, and as always, we never actually "fit in" on any show.

We just did our set from the week before, since our time was the same. But this week we were wireless and had a large stage to roam. Damn straight we took advantage. I don't think I stopped moving for 20+ minutes of our set. We had the TP, and a high ceiling, and the loved it. MCK was right up there singing along (they must have memorized our set by now). Random people were running around with the "stoke monkey" head on again. I don't even know who was the first guy that had it. The stage was riddled. We had a pop that surprised me after Cell Block 6. And of course, the big finish with Paul, MCK, and others, joining us on stage for Monkey Flings Poo. We had a lot of love, for sure!

Next up was Myztery N Sneek. These guys were more of a laid back feel. And had a lot of love. Might see them down the line, as well.

MCK was up last and brought a lot of energy, as expected. Jeff got involved during his favorite song, "Don't Wanna Be" once again (check out last week's remix here)

But altogether, it was a great show with some good vibes, and some new faces we got to see do their thing and connect with. April has brought us a lot of fortune. Two significant shows in our hometown, the new CRAP TV DVD was done, and some new connections on many levels are going to be great for the future. This is one of those nights where I loved being onstage and doing what I do. Much thanks to all the fans and artists that have shown us love over the last week!

I'm Drinking Again...

It's been a pretty rough couple of weeks. Not really for a lot of bad stuff going one. Just a LOT going on. Enough to drive you...to drink...

Oddly, it was the Missfit that suggested it after finding her orange cream stuff in the freezer. I guess I'll do a PittGirl/ChachiSays tonight and put down what comes to mind from the day...

• Wendy's bought by Arby's? Was made aware via brother Silent Ninja's Twitter, but ended up looking up the details. I didn't know Wendy's was doing so bad. Hell, I visit it at least three times a week, and prefer it over any other fast food option around here. So I did my part, dammit! But it was a backdoor stock thing, and the Thomas relatives are pissed...
• It just seems like everyone is just tired of this whole politics explosion. Podcasts, The Daily Show. Can we have a new president yet, daddy?
  
• I should call my father...
• As proven, most recently this past Friday in a ring, I am a different person entirely with a mask on..
• This guy wants to do a story on me? Really?
  
• I'm horrible with birthdays and the like. What would sister Sorg like this year?
  
• It is obvious to me that my interests vary greatly from many of my friends...
• If you haven't yet, I highly recommend the Artist Point. It's not pretty, or real professional, but these guys are starting out and have some really good conversations about art and the like. I can't wait to see where it goes.
  
• Last week, I heard the G Spod and Awful Show both feature a Vagina Water Park song in their shows. Including an interview on the latter show. Weird.
  
• My weeks have become and odd categorized thing lately. You get through these days to get to those days of supposed rest or catching up, only to find that it doesn't happen, so you wait to get to those days again. A vicious cycle.
  
• Miss Papuga is stirring the pot, alright!
• So interesting that Pod Friend and a newly introduced Hip Hop colleague know each other. Small world.
  
• I can't wait to have another "Drunk Sorg on the Porch" show on BlogTV...stay tuned.

WTF Was I Thinking Video: The Dew Witch Project

This week, I have a treat for you. This is one of my favorite projects of all time. So before you watch, some setup: Its 2000. Chachi and I were in the same Media class in high school (his first year, my second). And this was our final project for the year. At the time, we prided on consuming mass amounts of Mountain Dew (we would by cubes of the stuff at a time). And of course, the Blair Witch Project was fresh in our minds. Somehow, this came together.

• Yeah, kind of a big Manson fan. I think I used Sweet Dreams for a photo collage...
• The mass woods were behind my dad's house in Jamestown, PA.
  
• I drew the map.
• Chachi did not have a license. And might not have been of legal age to drive, even.
  
• Jered, who played Jardina/Moby, is now active in the Navy. This is him now...
• I think that mini glass Dew was on the floor of my car for a good bit of time. We refilled it and used it for the scene.
  
• Nope, we can't cross a four foot creek without that board....
• Night scene = sitting on the floor of the bathroom and passing the camera around.
• The "Dew Monster" was John Kovax. And was some extra footage from the parking lot of the christian coffee show we all hung out at when not at Perkins. He wore lots of hardware on his face (rare in our town) and chewed on pop cans.
  
• Jered was a huge fan of Moby and got on stage with him at the first Rolling Rock Town Fair. I need to find that footage....
• Linear editing. That's why it's kind of bumpy at times. I don't miss those days...

Kamikazee Hip Hop Show

Last night, I had the pleasure to play at the Kamikaze Hip Hop Showcase in Glassport, PA. This show was being put on by Skyline Entertainment. The concept was unique. About 11 bands were booked, told to prepare about 20 minute sets, and the order was drawn from a hat. The first two acts were drawn, then the next act was picked after every set. So we had about 20 minutes to prepare once we knew we were on.

First up was Holly Dolly with Legally Insane backing her up. Big C told me he knew they would get picked, as it was their curse. Holly has plenty of pics from the night. Second was Broken Wingz. He had some problems with his CD, but still brought it pretty hard. Enigma was up third. I was twittering much of the night's happenings and was told by Dawn that he was a former student. Weird how that kind of thing comes together.

N-Visible was up next and rocked his set, though I don't think people were feeling him this night. Then Money Pearl came up and impressed the hell out of everyone in that place. This guy about stole the show on talent. And I just found out he was up here from Florida. Basick Sickness jumped the stage next with his "hockey player" hair cut, as it was dubbed that night, and ripped through a set that got the crowd moving and moshing. Love the new shit. (keep an eye on WPAJ for something about that in the next couple days)


We took a small break and hung out in the light rain with the smokers. And what happens when we all get together? Holy Dolly does a Jack Sparrow dance and Jeff breaks out of freestyle, of course...But we got the crowd riled up for the hometown MCK. Jeff loves "Wanna be a gangsta" and got on stage for it. The crowd was all about MCK. Sikes was next and threw down a tight ass set. He stepped in to help us out when someone bowed out back at a September show we booked and he was impressive back then for an impromptu set. Check him out. Priceless Recordings was up last, but I was too spent to really take notice. Sounded good from what I caught.
Finally, CRAP got our chance. I was ok with the corded mics, until I got the one that couldn't go halfway across the stage. Knew I should have opted to setup our mics. Lesson learned. Luckily, we had gotten last minute clearance to use the toilet paper. For those new to our show (I know there's a few who read this blog) we have a bit of a gimmick where we throw rolls of toilet paper at the crowd. They throw it at eachother, wrap eachother up, and throw it back at us. It causes the right amount of mayhem we love to cause during one of our sets. The kids love it! Hell, so do the grownups! Either way, it's entertaining the audience, even if they were standing in the back witnessing the mayhem, scratching their heads, it's sure to stick. Set was good, people dug it, mission accomplished. Jeff debuted his "Fat Chicks" song. That's pro-fat chicks. Cause they all need love too...

Big props to Broken Wingz and CJ who both branded the "stoke monkey" head during the set and kept things live and unpredictable. All of you out there are part of the show!

Another Blast From the Past...

I was bouncing around the net last night and came across this pic on Jeff's Myspace. This was WesternPAJuggalos.com's first attempt at what was dubbed a "Juggalo Comedy Show". Thanks to the Near Professionals, a duo of improv comedians that we had befriended, and were curious about our "culture", we came up with this night. We actually did it twice, and with a great attendance. Unfortunately, we weren't' as techno savvy as we are today and there is little to no footage that exists of the night. This makes me cry inside.

Much of this crowd are good friends I met with and talked with everyday at the Art Institute. It was one of the best times of collaboration and group creativity that I had ever experienced. All of these people were passionate about this thing and making shows like this happen. I recall us going to paint that wall behind us in the picture for the theme. I believe Melissa had the hookup for making that wheel. Scott and Dave (the comedians) were great guys to work with and genuinely loved learning about the Juggalo thing. They even had this one guy dress up as Eminem to get booed off stage and flip everyone off. We had that wheel that they would call someone from the audience to spin, landing on one of the six Joker's Cards of ICP fame, which connected with one of their games.

In someways, I see a lot of the same qualities with some of the things we find ourselves involved with today. Podcamp, and all that entails, as well as another venture that is coming up. Two things filled with very passionate and creative people to make things happen.

WTF Was I Thinking Video: The First

I wanted to come up with something new for the blog as a regular "segment" Everyone's doing it. But I was mostly inspired by ChachiSays.com. The tag line brings you back, man.

So I thought of my youtube horde. And thought of a "WTF Was I Thinking?"
to revisit some of these old videos. It would be something to do. Of course, there's Dawn's WTF Wednesdays. Don't mean to rip you off. But it's not Wednesday, so WTF is open for Thursdays!

So the first installment is going to go WAY back. I had the chance to take my old projects from high school and, why not, toss them on the net. So this video is from 2000 courtesy of my High School Media class.

• This was a project assigned as "show someone at work"
  
• He works in Home and Garden and said he was clear for me to come in and film him. I show up and wasn't allowed in the store with my camera. Hence the cart collage.
  
• Notice the audio fade out for talking? Yeh, 1 track editing was awesome...
• Cart POV shot at about 3:30 probably seriously messed up my personal camera.
  
• And damn straight that's Limp Bizkit.
  
• You can even see a quick glance at the Avid Express screen. This was one of my first forays into digital editing. From then to now.

The Burn Effect

I had the chance to go chat with a good, experienced friend this evening, Dr. Espling. Two weeks in a row. It's a damn record. Anyways, we were talking, and as usual, I was telling him everything that Missfit and I were working on. And yeah. It's a lot. And he reminded me of something. Back in the Fall we found ourselves sitting at a Quaker Steak in Cranberry talking about everything and he told us "Don't burn yourself out."

And tonight he reminded me of that.

Now, I do have a lot of stuff going on. Podcasts, websites, videos and DVDs, writing lyrics, recording. And I've only been able to handle about half of those tasks to any effect at a time. This on top of something of a business venture Missy is hard at work on working out (it's almost there and I can almost talk about it). And we're attempting to accomplish all of this on top of family obligations and emergencies, which has taken a large toll on us, in the latter recently.

The last month, maybe two, it feels like we've been constantly going. Lack of sleep, lack of true rest, I guess. There's a lot going on. A lot of opportunity that is presenting itself. And I'm one to not want to pass up anything that might be interesting for the future.

See, in college, I often look back and wonder if I did enough. I toiled with my little side projects and learned what was put in front of me at good ol' AIP. Even the job I have is due to a former friend giving me the oppurtunity and starting off as a lowly part time logger and working myself up to over three years of my career, at this point. So many things have potential future and are things I have a genuine interest in. I've always followed that philosophy. Doesn't matter how much money I make so long as I enjoy doing it.

And sure, I do tend to spread myself out. Just because I can do so many varied things, doesn't mean I should do them all right now. But one day, I won't have the time to learn as much. To do as much and spread so many directions. I suppose I'm afraid of sticking with one path and it doesn't work out. And that one day, I will have to pull back the reigns and concentrate on the family and not be ready for it. I've tried organizing it all. I've tried delegating portions to pull back on my responsibilities. But its hard to depend on people. And many often fail me. I've developed a large problem in turning portions of my work over for others. It never fails that I have to chase them to get things done, and they go away.

A good person I met last year that goes by "DaButtonPusha" here in Pittsburgh keeps talking about being the "constant grinder" and pushing hard for this stuff. I believe and am passionate about quite a few things, and this is something in the back of my head as I keep fighting and pushing. And then some outside negative influences have increasingly been pushing back at the things I have worked hard at for years. But it's only made me stronger and more determined to make all of this work. And the constant support from some friends, and strangers, the numbers on the podcasts, the people buying our CD on itunes, have all helped to show there's something going on here and I can't quit. The day I quit, it might all fade away and never come back.

Welcome to the Madness Region

It was a long week. And, obviously, one that was not too inspired for blogging. But it was all capped off with the Rockin' 80's Party at the Creative Treehouse!

Much of it was a blur. I came as the Macho Man, an anagram of the 80's and further versions of the character, because 1) I wasn't wearing skivvy trunks, and 2) the only shirt I could find was from NWO era Macho.

As with others, I am awaiting pictures and videos to recall the night in full. But here's what I do recall.

• Playing much Nintendo with Silent Ninja and Sager, including Burgertime, RBI Baseball, and Legend of Kage. That thing was rockin' on the projector.
  
• I think I deemed Rachel "Miss Elizabit" for the night. She was as close as anyone could get, I thought.
  
• I recall a public group "Rick Roll" that was fantastic. Even better than our previous Luchador Rick Roll
  
• I recall becoming the Prom King. Much respect to "Rick Roll" Scott and "Bandana" Sager, but no one can mess with the "Macho King" baby!
  
• Then I danced with DJ G. That was surreal.
  
• Then Justin Kownacki kicked me in the bits to cut in on the birthday girl.
  
• At one point, everyone hugged me at the same time.
  
• And we broke out in "oh baby you" of the Mayhem NYC trip fame, and we were joined by Biz Markie?
  
• A wrestling match broke out between Chachi and Doc Remedy. You knew that was coming...

That's all the comes to me right now. Much love to Justin and Ann for throwing such a "fab" party last night, and Happy Birthday Ann!

Friends of a Feather

It is always a pleasure to see one of my friends take up something cool. And lately, I have been treated to a few of my friends doing so with the blogging world. And the results are pretty good.

Thoughtful Nature of Man. This is the blog for Will aka emcee lb, aka DJ Lunchbox.
It got off to a slow start, but he's been really into it. the latest gem has been his series of Pittsburgh Bloggers vs Pittsburgh Newscasters. Fantastic stuff.

Chachi Says. This guy started his blog maybe a week or so ago, and already has something of a following. And with good reason. He's put it out there on Twitter, and he really has a good format. Yes, much of it is ramblings on the mundane issues of life, but he is really good at expressing them in interesting ways. The "Chachi Says" at the end of each blog as a wrap up is a nice touch.

Cloud Envy. Doc Remedy just started up his own blog. Just started, but just the introduction, and explaining just the name shows promise.

Silent Ninja. My brother has never been one to express himself. (except through some entertaining facial expressions) But even his April Fools was pretty interesting. And now I know the ins and outs of what's new at Wendy's!

The Disconnected...

I am once again chiming in from New York state. In Olean, to be exact. The closest thing to a "burgh" I could find for miles, really. I just paid $3 for a two hour block of internet at McDonald's, about 8 miles away, to get some work done this weekend.

This is the sort of situation that both frustrates and...grounds..me. When I live in a day and age and job and hobbies that are so fast pace, connected, and...fast paced, I come up here to visit the in laws with the lovely Missfit and get the cord cut. I have a chance to realize that there are people in this world that live much "slower" lives.

This is the thing that frustrates me when I listen to my scores of Podcasts and read tech articles when one wonders who doesn't have the chance to be online to conduct business, and who really has to use dial up anymore? Well, my dad, for one. His is an area, in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, that hasn't even been blessed with cable television. And he is just barely getting a DSL signal. And Missy's parents up here in New York, who can't afford more than the dial up. These are the people the tech world forgets. For people that fly from city to city, able to "telecommute" with whatever they do to get by and entertain themselves, it feels that the small percentage, yet most densely populated, portions of this world are a quiet gray area for them.

Just this afternoon, we drove the other direction for dinner and had absolutely no cellular service for several miles of road. Not just the spotty dropped signal from time to time. I'm talking none at all.

I'm not complaining, or calling these people out as insensitive. I'm just saying one should always recognize the rest of the world, and that not everyone lives like they do. I came from the "boondocks" and longed to get to the big city and find this sort of life, myself.

And then think that this is how my life used to be as well. It's just facinating to think that people out here don't sit in traffic jams, take public transit, or have concerts right around the corner for them to enjoy on a Saturday night. The best they can hope for is a bar...somewhere...or the high school football game...

Or sitting at a rare wifi hotspot like I am tonight...

Don't be afraid

How about a tech blog for a minute....

Lately at work, I have had the opportunity to learn our CD Training development, a process that is finally being passed down by the guy that has done them for nearing 10 years. So this has encompassed me putting Parallels on my Mac at work (and purchasing it for my home Mac, after some experimentation).

This is the best time ever to escape the "Microsoft conundrum". The want to find something different and more reliable. And the shiny new versions of the toys coming from Apple makes that a little more appealing to switch.

This is coming from the guy who's been reconfiguring and building computers for over ten years. I was definitely afraid of the Macs and saw them as the inferior platform. My work had been driving me more and more to the mac platform and I saw the benefits of it for what we do with video. And after the switch to Intel and the advent of BootCamp and Parallels playing so nice with the opposition's software, things have been easier.

Now, I'm playing Half Life 2 and Team Fortress on my iMac on the weekends and co-oping Final Cut with my PC copies of Photoshop and other software. Handbrake is effin' sweet to put my favorite (legal-esque) DVDs to my Xbox to watch in HD. And I tell anyone looking for a new computer to go with Apple.

Maybe I'm just tired of the Start Menu. Maybe I'm just tired of all the compatibility caveats that came with PCs all of these years. Maybe I just like the animations of the dock. hehe.
