The Tale of Threee 'Marts

So, this Saturday, I was awoken from a well needed Saturday morning sleep in (I love those), and was informed that wifey had a dream. A dream that she completed all of her Christmas shopping that very day. A good three weekends before Christmas. Well before we usually even start. We went to Target, which is a rarity.

Target

I'm the least familiar with this chain, being the nearest is about 30 miles from my home town. It definitely has a different layout, and the red motif is very strong. What was surprising was the layout of the electronics with the books and DVDs/PC Games grouped together. The store just felt more labyrinthine and sectionized than anything I'd seen aside from a Sears. The weird part is all the red. Certainly not the most welcoming color to splash everywhere.

After a bout with Saturday's short snow storm that destroyed a Pittsburgher's ability to drive. ( now rank West Mifflin/51 area to be the worst to try to drive through in the snow in my last couple week's experience out there.) But, of course, I was bamboozled by the wife. And we ended up briefly at the mall, and then...

KMart

I hate K-Mart. K-Marts are dirty and unorganized. They just feel like a space where they threw shelves and stuff to buy and have at it. The Electronics department is rediculous, with just stacks of games under a case in unorganized fashion.

Fact: I have never been in attendance for one of these so called "blue light specials". I think they're proof of an old, failed concept.

Wal Mart

A lot of people hate the place. It treats it's workers like crap. It undercuts and drives out other businesses. Welcome to capitalism.

And it's king. And there's a reason why. Even in the none "Super" store in Bridgeville, it feels spacious, clean, and I know where everything is. It doesn't feel like the bathrooms are in a scary, long forgotten corner of the store. Stocks are plentiful. I can check my own ass out so I'm not waiting for them to find the damn UPC label that's staring me in the face.


So, after vowing that I was going to "cut back" on my Christmas shopping experiences. Now I've been to the mall at least 5 times since the beginning of November, did a round early Black Friday, been to Walmart quite a few times, and still don't have my damn tree up.

*sigh* Merry Shopmas...

Friday5: The Last Time was the Best Time...

1. When did you last have a mid-day nap?
Typically on a Saturday or Sunday dozing off to some TV. Does after work count?

2. When did you last have milk and cookies?
I sometimes have them. But often I don't think of it unless Missy has some.

3. When did you last have a bubble bath?
Like elementary age? It was Sesame Street bubble bath! There might have been one time as a teenager, but that's a blush-worthy tale...

4. When did you last jump on the furniture?
*shifty eyes* Never? I was tempted the last couple times I had a hotel room. Maybe if it was on someone else's credit card.

5. When did you last play in the mud?
It's usually more avoid than play. One time, I had to help clear a mud slide from someone's garage in Wisconsin after they had some bad flooding and rains. That was fun. Until I found all of that broken glass...

I remember Star Wars

I remember watching the trilogy at various points on TV
I remember having two Star Wars toys: Luke and an Ewok
I remember seeing a Millennium Falcon at a Goodwill I always wanted
I remember being really confused by the movies
I remember thinking the eye monster in the trash compacter scene was a "Jedi"
I remember getting past Mos Eisley once on Star Wars NES
I remember Empire Strikes Back finally getting beat with a Game Genie
I remember Playing Dark Forces for the first time and being immersed to be in the universe for the first time
I remember Star Wars re-release in the theater
I wish I would have made the rest of them
I remember going to Episode 1 after work at the country club
I remember dozing off during the middle touchy feely scenes
I remember my dad dozing off at the same place when I went back to see it

The Star Wars Question

I suppose my daddy biological clock is ticking. I've started thinking a bit about having kids, and how would I raise them. These are the things that run through my head these days...

I want him/her to be brought up with the right morals. The right experiences. So the question:

Which trilogy will they watch first?

So, I grew up with Star Wars. My sister went to see them when they were in the theaters. It's a part of your childhood as much as any fairy tale of Snow White, Pinnochio, and the like. Episodes 1-3 were the national progression as they came out.

On one hand, they can watch it straight through. From kiddie Darth all the way through to his downfall and salvation. It's the natural transgression, and you get Jar Jar out of the way much sooner. The story would be less confusing, maybe. More naturally flowing.

On the other hand, that could take away from the initial magic of the "original trilogy". The mysteries it holds. The revelation of Darth being his father. That Luke kissed his sister (I don't think I want to have that talk too early...)

And, by no means, will they ever be subjected to the Star Wars Christmas Special....
