Sorgatron '08: The Magical Mystical Market

From Sorgatron08.com...

The Stock Market is Magical

The Stock Market is Mystical

The Stock Market is not something you can see (well, that's a lie). The stock market isn't something you can hold in your hand. It's like a faith based money system.

I don't understand it. You most likely don't get it. Probably 95% of the country doesn't understand it. I sat between a programmer and an entrepreneur a few weeks ago and listened to a conversation that literally made my head spin. I at least get programming. And I know enough about it that I could do it, but choose not to.

But anyways. Even our politicians can't completely grasp what is going on. This has been admitted. And the $700 Billion? A number out of the air. We wanted a plan to supplant the failing businesses, reward the shitty CEO's, and, I'm sure, funnel money into pockets of people that have no interest int he greater good. And no attempt for review of this process? That's unamerican.

I have to agree with Mr. Dvorak on No Agenda. This sounds like a treasonous move, and thank you, House, for striking it down.

Can the average person even fathom almost a Trillion dollars? After years, and years of being told how much in debt we are, do we even care? Is there enough care when we hear this? Does the public care? No, we're conditioned not to anymore, just like the softening ups and downs of the rising gas prices.

The Market plummeted? Of course. It probably would have anyways with it's magical ways. Maybe this is the kick in the ass this country needed to realize how far down the hole we've been going, and a perfect summation of the direction this administration has been taking us.

So now's a good time to decide if you want "The Change you Need" or the "Change that's On It's Way" or whatever stupid tag line that isn't going to mean crap next year...

Con on the Cob This Week!

It's finally that time where Deface Marketing is going to hit Con on the Cob from all sides!!

The Wrestling Mayhem Show will be opening up with a seminar entitled "The Evolution of a Podcast" to discuss the trials and growth of WMS much like they've done at Podcamp Pittsburgh the last two years.

Then, Nerdz Eatin Shroomz will be teaming up with emcee lb to rock the stage Friday at 3:00 PM and Saturday at 1:30 PM.

CRAP will also be performing, throwing CRAP, and Stoke Monkey in tow, to show the nerdcore how we do it Friday at 6:00 PM and Saturday at 10:15 PM.

And be sure to swing by the Deface Marketing booth where we will be representing all of the above groups, and WesternPAJuggalos.com.

There are plenty of other groups and comedians there we can't wait to see in action, including Dual Core, Worm Quartet, Seamonkey, and those crazy assholes from the Awful Show we interviewed a couple months back.

Sorgatron '08: Deluxe Debate Edition

From Sorgatron '08.

"The difference between talking out of your ass between writing and video is that one's a blogger, and the other is a paid pundit. Someone give me a camera."

First of all, before getting into the fun stuff, I do have to disclose that Sorgatron was invited to tonight's debatesin Mississippi, but could not attend due to a personal banking crisis. But I would like to also point out that Stoke Monkey was also declined to attend due to something called a "Simian Seance Meeting for New Jersey's Proliferation" Whatever that means.

So the election. I was happy to see not talk of flipfloppers, or curious bulge in the back of the candidates that made 2004 suspect. Instead with had a soule brother and a pasty white dude. So things look excitedly different then...forever!

Of course we hit the economy, talking about numbers and figures that will make the common folks' head spin. Seriously, the common American doesn't understand just exactly what happened last Monday. All they know is that they might lose their house, and we're asking for $700 Billion of their money to fix it. The president didn't make things better with his speech. We're all too busy counting pennies to try to be able to drive to work to pay for more overpriced gas and a mortgage that may default under their feet. The only real change any of this means that can be seen? No more of those clever WaMu commercials since they were purchased over the whole affair, at least that I would guess.

Foreign affairs. We're aparently afraid of everyone again. Obama wants us to go to the source, Afganastan. Y'know where Osama is. Y'know, the plan that makes sense with everything we'd been told about 9/11. You know, the big fate changing day some 7 years ago? Thanks for weakening our forces. Thanks to the vulnerability of distributing our forces all across Iraq, leaving us open to threats of and agressive Russa, a quizzicle North Korea (just because their 3 inches shorter than South Koreans..), and a scary large China that we owe a lot of money. What's the plan? Have Palin throw rocks at Russia from her house?

Anyways, most of the night consisted of finger pointing, and instances of questionable fact checking. Both candidates' plans will add to a deficet. McCain had a lot of touching stories, including one about Roosevelt. Too bad the facts were wrong. Wonder about those other stories now.

So WWSD? (What Would Sorgatron Do?) Lets not talk economics. Sorgatron would hire an accountant. Because the President is not an accountant, and he's handing out money we don't have left and right. Foreign policy? Talk talk talk. The dialog needs to open up. Sorgatron is not apposed to playing putt putt with Putin.

Stay tuned. I'm just getting warmed up. And be sure to watch my twitter during instances such as these debates. I'm sure to be fairly vocal. I've held my tounge for a good long time. Lets have some fun with this.

Papuga Homework: The Junk Drawer

Once again, Miss Papuga, YOUR TEACHER, has hit us with another homework assignment. So what's in this girl's junk drawer?

Chili Peper in Sunset Mood by_Vl @ DeviantART

Bella opened up her drawer to look for that ring she wasn't so sure she still had. Could it still be there? Amongst all of these trinkets? She opens the door to a cavalcade or jewelry, tickets, and mementos.

Her hands rustle through, pushing aside the smattering of tickets from concerts long by. Some Barry Manilow and Sting tours at stadiums. Even some crazy shows from her "wilder days" of Green Day, Marylin Manson, and scores of punk and metal bands no one would remember from dive bars and clubs around the city. She stops for a minute on a Burger King toy from the Hunchback of Notre Dame she was given on a first date with a boyfriend that couldn't afford much on his table bussing salary at 16. The thought brought her back to a flush of memories of the highs, and inevitable falling out of that relationship and she thinks to herself that she would never have traded those memories for the world. She sets aside more mini-furbies and small furry kittens, she always loved kittens, and finally finds it there.

Her 1998 class ring. Sitting atop a picture from that last summer with her friends. She hadn't seen most of them for several years. The last when she moved to California for a job offer she just couldn't refuse three years ago. Now, she can go back to that reunion whole again and see what life has brought everyone else since.

Podcam Pittsbugh 3 QA

This week, in leiu of of the usual Friday5, Dawn posted her own Podcamp Pittsburgh 3 flavored questions for all.

PCPGH3 Banner

1. What brought you to Social Media and what keeps you hanging around?

I've worked on projects of a "social" nature since 2001 with the birth of WesternPAJuggalos.com (then AIP Juggalos). I've always looked for new things to keep the site fresh and get people to participate. Streaming radio led to my first Podcast, and everything fell into place from their via Podcamps, meeting new people, etc.

2. Which social networking tool gives you the shakes when it’s not updated or is experiencing down time? (Podcasts, Blogs, Micro-blogging, etc)

If nothing else, one thing I got from my classes at the Art Institute was "content is key". While some things, like the CRAP site, may not get as much action due to a lack of shows or news, but sites like WPAJ, or the Wrestling Mayhem Show, have to have something going on all the time to keep people coming back and building that audience, since they're a little more focused than just being social.

3. What kind of insight could you offer to others on a topic at PCPGH3? If none, then what do you most want to hear more about?

It's all about connecting. And doing what we do with all of these podcasts and websites has created connections you may never dream could happen. I've had the chance to talk with people in the music and wrestling businesses, both of which I grew up admiring and being entertained by. Now, I get to talk to them like any other person. Also, hidden talents can often come out if you just try. When I started, I often said I hate my own voice, and now I have no problem getting on a microphone in a studio, or on stage, and just the words flow out.

Podcamp is a great chance to hear how everyone else has figured out, and what's new I should be paying attention to. It's something different to hear this in a conversation in person than just reading some article on a Cnet or Engadget about what I should be keeping an eye out for. That's why our sessions are just about "how we did it" with the Mayhem Show.

The coming of Sorgatron.com

Yeh, I kind of started using the .com months ago, and had been meaning to do a. the banner change, and b. this post, and haven't gotten to it due to business, but here it is...

Now, I mentioned my original blog in this week's I Remember, I ended up obtaining sirpsychosexy.net after taking the Red Hot Chili Peppers song as an online handle (hence "spsjuggalo" on many of my old accounts. So I've had this .net a long time. Hell, I started with a free NameZero account with that stupid ad banner I figured out how to javascript around to get rid of. A couple of transfers later, here we are.

So why Sorgatron? I sort of feel silly using the old .net name for my current dealings. It was time for something new, and I held on for lack of a better identity. Leave it to the Wrestling Mayhem Show crew for lending me this name over the evolution of the show the last two and a half years. I finally submitted to this with Sorgatron08.com, my "campaign" headquarters. So I decided to do the conversion here, on the home of all things Sorgatron. And, of course, there are plenty of "Mike Sorg's" on the internet. Some even in very similar fields as I am. Even with mikesorg.com, I've tried to keep things a little different in presenting my portfolio.

It's all about identity, and this is my hand in it.

WTF Was I Thinking Video: Adventures of CD Boy!!!!

This week, I found something that wasn't exactly a video, but I came back across when doing the I Remember post from late last night. So I figured it would be worth it to skip a Podcamp Pittsburgh related post to present to you... CD BOY!!!!

  • More of the Adventures of CD Boy can be found here...
  • I was so happy to learn the magic of animated gifs.
  • This would be about 8 or 9 years old.
  • Check out that sweet Fugitive poster in the background.
  • I still have all of those CDs
  • This all stems from my collection of AOL and other ISP discs that you would find in every mailbox, magazine, and mailer at the time. I had stacks and started sticking them to my wall and ceiling with sticky tack. Somehow, we inspired this...

I remember the internet ten years ago...

I remember this show by CNET on the Sci fi Channel
I remember our second computer, and IBM Aptiva C66 from Radio Shack
I remember hooking up to the internet for the first time
I remember my first website being so sparse
I remember starting something that would later be called "blogging" nearly ten years later
I remember posting pictures in high school that are still online
I remember postage stamp, pixelated videos
I remember taking all night to download a couple of songs off of something called Napster
I remember ICQ and not wanting to move to AIM
I remember Quake and Quake 2 dominating online
I remember Khali being the shit to get games connected
I remember feeling the difference between 28.8 and the firmware upgrade to 33.6
I remember the "massive" upgrade to 56k, and the standard war between K56flex and v.90 (if I recall correctly)
I remember getting a dual modem hooked up to two phone lines for "blazing" speed of two 56k modems
I remember porn downloading so slow
I remember making a web page for a friend's band
I remember an MP3.com
I remember when the internet was a scary, new, unregulated space

Friday5 Like a Pirate!!

It's Friday5 Like a Pirate Day!!!!

1. What’s the cutest of the small, furry animals?
A Pirate thinks nothing is cute and cuddly. 'Cept for maybe them brothel girls on shoreleave. but that's after they punch you in the face. Arrr...

2. What predator impresses you the most?
The deadly wolverine. Looks like a human. Three deadly claws on his hand. Might also hunt vampires.....ARRRRRRR....

3. After which animal will you name your professional sports team?
Arrr! I am constantly offended by those Pittsburgh Pirates dragging our good name in the dirt. But that Pirate, he looks mean enough. It should become the Pittsburgh Pillaging Pirates! That be striking the fear in the rest of those baseball teams when they fear of our team pecking their port holes out!

4. What’s an unusual animal that you know a little something about?
Why! That be the dung beetle! They be pushing that dung all day and swabbing their "poop deck"!

5. Your high school probably had some kind of mascot or symbol, but based on your memories of it, what animal should REALLY have been the emblem?
Me first school's mascot was a Muskie, which really doesn't seem to threatening on a basketball court, or flopping around in wrestling. It's a good thing we didn't have a football team with that name. Me graduating school was the Trojans. I don't know what school's obsession with Mediterranean soldiers is.

But the good animal for such a small town team is the Platypus. Just look to the beast's shifty eyes behind that bill....Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.......

New CRAP Tracks!

Damn, it's been too long since I could say that. I finally decided to say "eff it" and hit the studio to go over a handful of tracks with some jacked beats we did for fun but never finished. The two tracks below are two that were recorded, but never finalized.
So I took some time. Tightened it up, on top of tightening I did months ago, and let it go into the wind (or Myspace Music, at least. Everything's downloadable, so hit it up, put it on your ipod, delete it if it's shit. Have fun.

But seriously, there's been a lot of activity lately on the music front. Chachi's been in studio and put together a "club track" that blew my mind. emcee lb(Will) has been working on this and that. Another Mayhemer has been talking projects with us. And I finally wrote something! I love it that the juices are flowing again. Stay tuned.

From www.monkeyflingspoo.com

"Well, sort of. There has been a nice collection of tracks that have never seen the light of day due to personal schedules, collaborations that never happened, and other circumstances. But we're back with two tracks I've sat on for long too long!

First up is "Deathwish", a track that people that have been to CRAP live shows in the last year have heard quite a bit of. Well, now here it is in it's full, finished glory.

Second is "Suck My Dick(the Ex-Girlfriend Song)', a song that's been under wraps for a long time, and shows the softer side of CRAP. Kinda.

So check the songs out on the Myspace Page and let us know what you think! There's plenty more where those come from."

Sorgatron '08: Drivers Be Warned!!!

It's time to get this campaign into full swing. The Stoke Monkey has been flaunting his presidency of New Jersey, making videos, appearing on the Wrestling Mayhem Show, letting iJustine impersonate him, etc.

It's time to shape what I stand for. I have 3 words for you..

Mandatory Driving Retests.

How many times have you been frustrated, or even downright put in danger, with someone who rolls through a stop sign, fails to signal, disobeys taking turns at a four way stop. So I propose we make a retest every ten years a driver has been on the road.

Think about it. You take classes and a test once when you started driving. When was that? Sixteen? Seventeen? I have been driving for ten years now and honestly don't remember what to do in certain situations on the road. We typically drive our routes everyday, to our familiar areas of work and play, and know how to get through that. Some people pride themselves out there on their disregard for personal and public safety when their driving, displaying their car's dents and scrapes as badges of honor. Instead of letting these people continually deteriorate, give them the platform to recall all of the things they do wrong.

Then there's the number one offenders. The elderly. We have no ceiling for how long you have your license right now. So long as you are competent enough to renew your license, you can get behind a wheel. Even if you can't see the end of the dash, or see over the steering wheel, for that matter. This is a danger on the road. And no one is afraid to do something like this, because everyone knows, old people vote. And that's a whole other problem with this country for another post...

WPAJ Interview: Liquid Sundays with The Central Plains

Sorg is backstage interviewing bands for Liquid Sundays. The event on September 7 at Olive or Twist in Downtown Pittsburgh happened to be their first music and fashion show.

We had the chance to catch Nik Westman and the Central Plains, a local indie rock group from the area.

You can listen to the show here, or subscribe to the WPAJ Interview here.

Friday5: Don't Taze Me, Bro!

  1. Who lets you have your way more than you should?
CiCi's Pizza. It's not awesome pizza. But there's lots of it. And I can't help myself.

  2. According to the cliche, the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, but what’s the way to yours?
Yeah, the stomach works for me. Or a shiny new toy. I'm easily distracted.

  3. What’s something that should have been put away but hasn’t been?
I lot of old memorabilia from "back in the day".

  4. When did you last weigh yourself?
Doctor's appointment last month. Lost 7 pounds!

  5. What do the cops in the donut shop say? :D
So the one cop says to the other "Y'know, I love the perks of this job. This is the life". The second cop tazes the first. And takes his donut.

Wrestling Mayhem Show 133: Relocation

Sorg, DJ Lunchbox, and Mayhem Missy have relocated for the night due to some technical issues in the studio. But all the mayhem is here! And Sorg loves not being in charge!!! Demolition and Fashion

This was one of those weekends where I had a chance to explore both sides of my personality, you could say.

We started off heading up to the homestead in Jamestown, PA with Missy, Silent Ninja, and Doc Remedy. I was on a mission. A mission of pizza and destruction.

We got to my dad's in Jamestown. intending to get a head start on the fair, but those stupid Hurricanes still had an effect on us landlocked folks. Stupid rain. But we hung out with my dad until he went to work and hit up Perkins: the good old Greenville hotspot.

Now this was interesting for two reasons. Three, if you count Doc Remedy not having any preview Perkin's experience. The place was dead. I mean DEAD. It seems Perkin's is wholly non-smoking. And I didn't know this, but the whole state is doing the same as Allegheny County. I don't know if I simply didn't know this because we were already subjected to this down here in Pittsburgh. But it seemed to take a hit. And this place already had to drop off being 24 hours on weekdays thanks to an incidental shooting in 2000. (when I worked there). Also interesting was the Silent One, my younger brother receiving what I call the "going home effect". That thing where you just go home to hang out and end up running into everyone you knew in some compacity and have that uncomfortable "hi, what are you up to" moments with people you may or may not ever want to talk to again. But this time it was a girl who, it seems, he helped out with Vo-Tech in school. And his nickname was Moses? How did I not know this?! My nickname back in the day was Jesus (that's another post) and they followed suite to call him Moses in retrospect. Wow.

So Saturday rolls along and we don't get going as soon as I wanted to. Missy wanted to take a nap, so I take Silent Ninja and Remedy to the spillway where the carp gather under the bridge. We filmed a Should I Wrestle That involving seagulls, and I'm disappointed to find that after the beginning of the year you will no longer be able to use bread to feed the fish due to the "health of the fish" hm.

We hit the fair. Meet up with my just turned 13 year old nephew that has more facial hair than the three of us combined, and is on like his tenth girlfriend. The demolition derby was a nice mix of all the mayhem I wanted. I hadn't been to a derby since my sister drove, and was injured, was in it a few years back. This was definitely the best I've seen in a while. Watching the usual three heats, a "powder puff" for girls, mini cars (Cavaliers, Cobalts and the like), and tankers (heavy cars from the 70's). The night wrapped and we walked the fair some more. Remedy got another sweet sword, and we had the best fair pizza ever. Mission accomplished....

And then, in a complete 180, I ended up at Olive Or Twist downtown Pittsburgh for Liquid Sundays. I became aware of the show thanks to Sarah from the Podcamp Meetings.

It was certainly something different. The event was held in the second floor of the place, with a great loft atmosphere. Some photography was featured on the walls, and there was a nice mix of what can only be described as light indie rock (by the artists themselves, even). Between the groups, there was something of a fashion show while they setup for the next group. The music isn't something I would generally listen to, but I was rather happy with the music by The Lost Sea, Central Plains, and Thee Adora. I had the pleasure of pulling members of each group aside for a few minutes to talk for the WPAJ Interview, which I will have up in the next few days, and perhaps some video.

But these guys are having another one in November. Keep an eye on their site for details as they come up.

Review: Unwritten Law "Live and Lawless"

Unwritten Law is another one of those bands that achieved levels of success in the standard music industry that found a more comfortable home on the Suburban Noize Label. With their latest album/DVD combo, "Live and Lawless", we get to see the longtime band in their live element, as most groups are most truely represented.

As with Suburban Noize's hed pe "DIY Guys" earlier this year, "Live and Lawless" was recorded at the famous Key Club. This time, though, instead of a documentary, we have a DVD of the performance that matches up with the CD. So much so that the first eleven tracks are exactly the same as on the DVD. On top of this we have a music video and a band interview that really give you the bang for your buck.

The whole package packs all of the favorite Unwritten Law songs and vibe that have helped the band stay on top for so long.

You can hear tracks for yourself on the CD's page here:
