I Remember Meeting the In Laws

I remember meeting the grandma that loved wrestling
I remember meeting an aunt that woke me with a broom one morning
I remember being a wee bit intimidated by it all
I remember hating being disconnected from the world out there in Western New York
I remember spending hours talking around the kitchen table
I remember people would come and go like a sitcom guest and have a good time visiting
I remember not know ing what to think of her father's off color, construction worker inspired jokes
I remember taking the grandmother to a RAW house show in Elmira
I remember the first time I experienced their crazy Christmas Eve with all of the family and Santa Claus coming to hand out gifts
I hope my family gets this crazy

WTF Was I Thinking Video: CRAP in East Liverpool

It's been a bit since I showcased one of the good CRAP perforances on here.  This is one of the shows I have good memories of, from the Teen Zone in East Liverpool, OH on August 18, 2006.

  • This is one where the toilet paper was flying and the kids were really getting into it.
  • I believe this was the introduction of the "Mummy Ninja" towards the end.
  • I do miss East Liverpool.  Those kids were nuts and really into what we were doing.

Friday5: The year that was

I sort of  took a few days off due to the work and holiday schedule.  Maybe I'll catch up a bit this weekend.  Lets get this staple out of the way:

  1. What’s one really cool/useful/nice thing you purchased for yourself this year?
The iphone.  It's become my lifeline since getting it in July.  It's just a 1st generation, but the 2.0 update makes it just as usefull (sans 3G and GPS, but I can manage).  I can check my email, update certain sites, connect people with what I'm doing, whether they care or not, I guess.  I can't go back to regular phone...
  2. What’s one area of your life you really improved this year?
Personal.  I have a better appreciation of my friends and family that had me in the dumps in '07.
  3. Who or what was a regular source of encouragement or inspiration to you this year?
My friends.  Especially Missy.  But between her, Chachi, and the awesome crew with the Mayhem Show.  These are the most together and creatively dedicated groups I've worked with since the initial crew on WesternPAJuggalos.com.  I love it.
  4. What’s something nice you did for someone else this year?
I setup my in laws and father with wireless internet.  It's helped out  my mother in law a bit with her laptop getting online (along with a reformat to the old, Pentium 3 Dell).  I hope it brings them up to date with some new tech, and it enables Missy, myself, or anyone else to access with their devices when around. (phones, laptops, xbox's).  I know my bro
  5. In what way was 2008 better than 2007?
I wasn't as depressed, I got a lot accomplished.  New ventures, new clients, new possibilities.  Amazing.

I Remember The Evolution of Online Gaming

I remember when the internet wasn't in our living rooms
I remember when multiplayer meant taking turns at Super Mario Bros.
I remember getting Quake to work
I remember the delay when you hit shoot
I remember buying Khali to play Duke and Starcraft online easier
I remember Unreal Tournament blowing the doors off online gaming
I remember when the Sega Dreamcast was so crazy for including a modem
I remember nutty modem periphrials for 16-bit systems that never got off the ground
I remember Sega's Japan only download service via cable
I remember Nintendo talking about a similar service withs satellite delivery there
I remember Xbox Live being a crazy idea
I remember not wanted to buy a game without the disc
I remember the joy of Xbox Live, Wii, and especially, Steam and that they got it right

WTF Was I Thinking Video: Lucha Rickroll

I was reminded of the following video thanks to some internal nominations for the WTF Moment of the Year in the Mayhemmys we just posted for the end of the month.

  • Even skull heads hate the rain...
  • I love that the lucha is drinking from a Taco Bell cup
  • I seem to recall a syncing issue...I was right.

Something Old...

So, this past weekend, I accompanied Missy up to New York so that she could return to her annual gig of helping her Aunt Jo bartend the Fireman's Club Christmas Party.

Now, typically, I would just sit in and talk with her grandmother, or, since setting it up over Thanksgiving, do internet things to occupy myself.  But being a Saturday night, I needed to do something, and there just isn't much to do, even when driving to the nearby Olean or Wellsville "burgs".  I hit up my trusty Now Playing  app, and had two options, the Carmike 8 in Olean, and the  Twin in Wellsville.  I've passed the latter several times in our frequent trips to the amazingly classic Texas Hots with her family, and always wanted to check it out.

So I head out to see "The Day the Earth Stood Still".  Not something I was itching to see, but looked interesting, but I did recall that the Wolverine trailer was running with this film.  Awesome.  So I get there, and there's one girl behind the popcorn counter, getting things popping for a patron.  She says she'll be with me in a second.  Walks around her counter, into the ticket booth, sells me my ticket, walks back out and around the counter, and asks if I would like anything.  I had a flashback to a Muppet movie of a similar nature "Happiness Hotel in The Great Muppet Caper" perhaps?  Thanks V_Rock).  I ventured to the second floor (Bolt was playing on the ground level).  So I wasn't sure what to expect.

The view from my seat

I walked in to find a couple already sitting int he theater (was about 20 minutes early).  The place had about four rows of seats up front, maybe another ten on the upper level, splitting off to each side of the projector's booth.  The screen was actually aparently below us.  And a sort of lower stage area that the stadium seating came down to.  I was very intrigued.  The walls were adorned with old carvings of angels and such.  The place actually filled pretty well before the movie started.  Mostly couples, and a small group of mouthy early tweeners that wouldn't shut up.  The sound was certainly not stereo, or anything, but I don't think took away from the movie.  Considering paying a few dollars less than I would have at almost any other theater, it was a great escape.

I'm amazed when I found out that Missy and her mother never really frequented this place.  She had never been there, and her mother and father went last to watch Passion of the Christ.  But the area has a nice string of small town shops, including the previously mentioned Texas Hots and a coffeeshop.  I might find myself wandering over that way in the future whenever I'm visiting the in laws...

Friday5: Something Borrowed

1. When did you last sleep in a bed outside your home?
I tend to visit the Parents a lot. Missy's and mine. Beds, couches, chairs. All Thanksgiving week, and more this weekend. One time, we were attacked by ladybugs. Or the beetles that look like ladybugs. It was summer and a room at her grandmother's not used much. They just kept coming from the window, crawling across the ceiling, etc. I've dubbed it the "Great Ladybug Wave of 2008."

2. When did you last drive someone else’s car?
I tend to borrow my dad's when I'm home and Missy has gone to New York (hence taking our car).

3. When did you last cook in someone else’s kitchen?
I dare not tread...maybe at my dad's. His kitchen is bigger than his living room. Amazing.

4. When did you last care for children who aren’t yours?
I don't know about care for, but I tend to hang out a lot with my 13 year old nephew when I go home. Though he could probably kick any of our asses...

5. When did you last do someone else’s job?
Thankfully, not so much lately...

I remember Christmas

I remember the train set nailed to a white board
I remember the little town we would setup in the middle of the tracks
I remember trimming the tree and the sweet Snoopy ornaments that I think mom made (hey mom, remind me if you did in the comments. I know you read this)
I remember going to Christmas Eve Mass, with the candle light singing
I remember going caroling one year with the church. That was fun. And cold.
I remember the nativity set with the "real" grass stuff that got everywhere
I remember every year getting up in the morning for presents under the tree, then driving to Pittsburgh for dinner at the grandparents'
I remember the "Santa's Store" they had at school where I could buy my gifts for everyone with ten bucks
I remember lots of projects with construction paper and Elmer's glue that I always got everywhere
I remember when Christmas made me feel warm and fuzzy

The Mayhem Crew contends with an epic battle with technology. A late start, a early departed Lunchbox, and much Mayhem. Our heroes learn what everyone wants, who sucks at the Macarena, who rocked at the Slammys, what else Remedy thinks is like poop, breaking news from the IWC, and the greatest awards to come to the internets!

WPAJ Interview: Thee Adora

We have a whole mess of interviews coming down the pipeline from this past Sunday’s Hip Hop Buffet, showcasing no less than 10 interviews from the show’s talent. Stay tuned for that. But in the meantime, we realized we never put out the last of our Liquid Sundays series of interviews from a few months back.

Thee Adora finished off Liquid Sundays in September. Check them out and download some free tracks.
